Technical specifications

A very successful sail made in both cruiser and racing versions and famous for being the greatest of Ron Holland's creations for Nautor Swan. The racing model has been made in 5 units, which are added to the 40 of the cruiser model.
The project is a development of the victorious Ron Holland 'Marionette' (winner of 4 races at the S.O.R.C. 78), 'Big Apple' (winner of an elegance award at the Admiral's Cup) and 'Mandrake'. For this reason, compared to the previous model, the Ron Holland lines begin to become so pronounced here as to consign them to the history of classic sails. A pencil that brushes in the design an extreme optimization of the time regulation: light but very important hulls, gigantic maximum beams but with very narrow ends, very elongated appendages with hanging rudders. Racing versions that are more than super-essential with flush deck and tubular interiors. But also cruiser versions that are very attentive to performance even if combined with a unique care for finishing, reliability and comfort and the work of excellent shipwrights.
Also known for this model is the experimentation at the time carried out in 1979 of the carbon rudder on Casse Tete V, which broke during the Fastnet of that year.

The project has a hull speed of 8.12 knots (15.04 km/h) and a rating of 34.4'.

A Swan 441, named Race Passage came in third in the 1980 Victoria, British Columbia to Lahaina, Maui Clipper Cup race.
Swan 441, named Carissa, was used by the first Finnish all-female crew to cross the Atlantic from west to east in the ARC Europe Rally 2022.
