Swan 43

Technical specifications

The Swan 43 Ron Holland (which the New Zealand designer himself defined in the promotional documentation of the time as 'my best project for Nautor Swan'), also known as 'Swan 432', is a project conceived as a development of the famous one-offs of Ron Holland, Big Apple, Silver Apple and Golden Apple until 1984, it was therefore produced between 1984 and 1985. Her first hull, with the launch number 101, now called Triboulet, was launched in September 1985.

The culmination of years of travel between Nautor Swan and Ron Holland, the project, very elegant and strong, is rigged at the masthead, with a good righting coefficient and a strong point, in addition to the interior volumes, of the extraordinary equipment and the cockpit, well set back, with deferred maneuvers and protected by the continuation of the classic Swan flush deckhouse.

Characterized by a hull with a very slender stern and sleek, aggressive waterlines, it was one of the first hulls designed using highly sophisticated numerical control techniques, an outstanding innovation for the time, consistent with Ron Holland's America's Cup success.

The Swan 43 is the first Nautor Swan by Holland yacht of this size to be equipped with a remarkably comprehensive level of equipment and a level of interior finishes that were unique in the years of its first launch.

Compared to previous projects, the Swan 43 Holland is also revolutionary for the 6 sheet winches in the cockpit, added to another 6 halyard winches on deck and another 2 landing gear control winches, as well as the base brim winch on the boom, for a total of 13 winches, combined with an oleo-hydraulic backstay control system, the vang, the forestay and the flatner, at the time unique in this dimension of boat. This extraordinary fine adjustment equipment is also combined with a rod rigging and two stern steering wheels.

The interior is the result of the skilful work of the shipyard's shipwrights, with the shape of wood and rounded structures with an elegant finesse in the materials used and in the finish, almost unattainable today. A conception of space that combines a high-performance hull design with excellent owner's cruising comfort in a 13-meter hull.

The Swan 43 Holland is built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood finishes. The floorboards are real steel beams of extraordinary volume and reliability that make this boat a true Nordic and oceanic boat. It has a masthead sloop rigging, a sloping bow, a reverse transom, an internally mounted fork rudder controlled by a wheel, and a deep-draft keel. It has a length of 13.06 meters, maximum beam of 4.01 meters, draft of 2.50 meters. Fuel tank capacity 265 L in 2 tanks and 320 lt water tank capacity in 2 steel tanks. It weighs 11,082 kg and carries 4,100 kg of lead ballast and is approved for 8 people per cruise, rising to about 12 in the regatta. It is equipped with a 45HP Volvo Penta 2003T engine in shaft line, especially for manoeuvring and mooring, with maxprop propeller option. It has a white sail area of 81.70 square meters for a speed of about 8 knots.
